Originated From: Lottie Moon
Cultural Influence: Pagan Sabbat or Afternoon Tea Recipe
Ingredients:
Three Teacups
of Sugar
One Teacup of Butter
One Teacup of Sour Milk
Four Pints Flour
Three Eggs, well beaten
Half a teaspoon of Baking Soda
Flavour to taste, roll thin, bake in a quick oven.
Adapted recipe:
2 cups Flour
1/2 cup Butter
1 heaping cup of Sugar
1 well-beaten Egg
1 tablespoon Cream
Directions:
1. Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and mix well. Add the flour and cream.
2. Dust a
board with flour. Roll the dough very thin. Cut cookies with a round cookie
cutter. Place on a buttered or non-stick cookie sheet.
3. Bake at 475 degrees for about 5 minutes.
Notes: I believe ‘teacups’ can be substituted for actually measuring cups, but baking with those fragile, beautiful teacups my Granny passed on is such a thrill, I use this one as it reads. The adapted recipe is always an alternative. Milk can be made to sour by adding a small bit of vinegar.
